Camping, Canoeing and Drinking

September 11th, 2007

This past weekend was a fun weekend, I headed up north to the Saco River area in Maine for my cousins bachelor party. Many good times were had and I actually had a fun time camping for like the first time ever. As one would imagine with the alcohol flowing like the river itself there were some fun times. We played a bit of football by the river side, a crazy woman visited our camp site and tried to steal our wallets, one of my friends there pissed on his own shoes in the middle of the night, and of course many overturned canoes.

We headed up river about 6 miles then hit the river for the canoe ride back, we had about 17 people 2 to a canoe. Just about every canoe was loaded up with at least 100 beers, when we returned to the shoreline we were down to 20 or so beers. It sounds dangerous but in reality the Saco is actually a rather shallow river, in fact there are a few spots that were so low you had to get out and drag your canoe. They have overnight trips where you can go down the river and set up camp on the shoreline for the night then depart again the next morning. There’s talk of making it a yearly event where we all get together and head north for some good times. The weekend after labor day is actually a great weekend to head there, being one of the most popular recreational rivers around (who would have thought) it’s actually a quiet weekend, floating down the river was a relaxing experience – not a sound around other than us – no cars, no houses.. nothing.

New iPods Cometh

September 5th, 2007

ipodtouch Well today Apple had one of their trademark press conferences where Steve Jobs introduced a fixed up iPod lineup. Among these were a new iPod Nano, new iPod “Classic” and the iPod “Touch”. Now I must admit, I hated Apple for a good long time because they were such a pain in the ass to deal with. But since OS 10, Intel processors, and their newer modern design’s they have started to grow on me. Steve Jobs and Apple are also marketing geniuses, who else creates this kind of hype before a press conference anyway? I don’t really think anyone else can compare. Apple today however fumbled a bit by slashing the price on the iPhone significantly, angering allot of the early iPhone adopters.

I’ve been toying around with buying an iPod for a couple years but always end up holding out for something better. I’ve always loved their sturdy design/case and their easy to use interface. Sometimes it’s refreshing not to have to fuck around with something for hours on end to get it to work.. these are things someone in IT lives for. In the end I will probably wait a while… again and see if they cut the price. And also see how hackable it ends up being, it would be nice to be able to check a mail client, use google maps etc in the same way its used on an iPhone.

Yep, I must be a gay fanboy.

Anniversary

September 5th, 2007

Today Jen and I celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. It seems like just yesterday I met her for the first time up in the great white north known as Canada and we departed on our journey to be together. Three great years later here we are happy as ever and loving each others company. Here’s to many more!

Tonight we hit up our favorite restaurant for a dinner for two.
