More Camping, Drinking

May 27th, 2008

Camping '08 This past weekend Jen and I made it up to the White Mountains good ‘ol New Hampshire. Specifically we ended up in Bethlehem at a cozy little camp ground which runs year round. The occasion was for my Cousins surprise 29th birthday. We all piled (about 6 of us) into vehicles and pulled up to his house at 10am and surprised the crap out of him when he found out he was about to spend a long weekend of drinking :D (oh and camping of course) Overall it was a good trip and many many beers were consumed, wiffle ball was played, and things were burned (mostly wood..). The campground however left allot to be desired. You were very close to your neighbors, the wood was extremely overpriced and burned like it had been soaked in gasoline, and the asshat camp staff (dubbed the “Asian Pig” for his Chinese Eyes and Pig Nose) talked down to us like we were 8 year olds when we were sitting around chatting after the 10pm “Quiet Time” (Who the fuck goes to bed at 10pm on a vacation?) and on numerous occasions he gave us ultimatums to leave, even had the balls to come up to us at 8:30am the next morning to rub it in some more.

But overall it was a fun time and everyone had a blast. The down side? After arriving home Jen and I were both sick which means the chances of me camping again anytime soon are pretty slim. The outdoors seems to hate me and worst of all there is no Internet. But my iPod brought me and the group solace with music and a carefully selected porn scene as a conversation piece. Go Apple!

Three Sheets on MOJOHD

April 17th, 2008

Not often does a TV show come along that caters to several of my favorite interests. Those interests of course being Booze and Traveling, the first I have quite a bit of experience with but the second not as much. So I am able to live through Zane on Three Sheets. Three Sheets is a great show on MOJO HD where Zane Lamprey travels around the globe experiencing all sorts of different drinking cultures. From drinking exotic beers to even more exotic hard liquors every show is sure to be a new adventure. I would call Zane the Mike Rowe of drinking shows, he genuinely loves his job, he’s funny, and seems like an all around nice guy.

One of my personal favorites was the Belgium episode, I had no idea there could be so many different flavors of beer from Apple to Orange.. another was the Germany episode because really how can you go wrong with Oktoberfest? (The hot beer chicks helped too yikes :D ) The episodes are always funny and many feature appearances by Pleepleus Zane’s Monkey sidekick. I challenge anyone to sit through an entire episode without craving their favorite drink or beer I know that I have to crack open a brew every time I watch the show.

If you happen to get the MOJO channel (I get it on Comcast) and want to learn more about booze and be amused at the same time then you should tune into this show. If you don’t get it on cable you can get it either on the MOJO Website or on HULU. The new season just started Thursdays at 9pm EST and tonight Zane heads off to Rio..

Camping, Canoeing and Drinking

September 11th, 2007

This past weekend was a fun weekend, I headed up north to the Saco River area in Maine for my cousins bachelor party. Many good times were had and I actually had a fun time camping for like the first time ever. As one would imagine with the alcohol flowing like the river itself there were some fun times. We played a bit of football by the river side, a crazy woman visited our camp site and tried to steal our wallets, one of my friends there pissed on his own shoes in the middle of the night, and of course many overturned canoes.

We headed up river about 6 miles then hit the river for the canoe ride back, we had about 17 people 2 to a canoe. Just about every canoe was loaded up with at least 100 beers, when we returned to the shoreline we were down to 20 or so beers. It sounds dangerous but in reality the Saco is actually a rather shallow river, in fact there are a few spots that were so low you had to get out and drag your canoe. They have overnight trips where you can go down the river and set up camp on the shoreline for the night then depart again the next morning. There’s talk of making it a yearly event where we all get together and head north for some good times. The weekend after labor day is actually a great weekend to head there, being one of the most popular recreational rivers around (who would have thought) it’s actually a quiet weekend, floating down the river was a relaxing experience – not a sound around other than us – no cars, no houses.. nothing.
